Landing on Mars – the materials challenge

As our quest to push boundaries, learn more and reach further corners of our universe continues to grow, so too does the need to develop the innovative technology that will take us there.

Join this webinar to find out how the Aerospace Edition of CES EduPack allows you to perform advanced material selection for a Mars lander entering the planet’s atmosphere, inspiring students with a topical case study in space exploration.

What you will learn

  • Learn how multiple objectives are used to find high-performance material candidates for this demanding application
  • Find out how the visual and interactive software tools are used to compare ceramic options with light metals alloys and composites
  • See an advanced and engaging case study that can be used to stimulate the interest of tomorrow’s engineers.

Who should attend?

  • Educators who want to find out more about advanced ways in which CES EduPack can be used to engage students with cutting-edge engineering.

Presenter

Luca Masi is an Education Manager at Granta Design, and Aerospace Engineer with international R&D experience in spacecraft propulsion (Alta-Space, Universita’ di Pisa), multi-objective optimization and bio-inspired computational techniques for automatic design of interplanetary space trajectories (University of Strathclyde, software development for CNES and Thales Alenia Space).

About Granta Design

Granta Design is the leader in materials information technology, helping engineering enterprises to manage vital data and information about materials, analyze it to develop ‘material intelligence’, and apply that intelligence to make smart decisions across product design and development. We support the entire product lifecycle by integrating materials knowledge into design, simulation, and PLM, supporting 'cradle-to-cradle' product engineering.
