Robust architectural design includes material specification that considers more than just aesthetics and visual intent. Performance, durability, cost and environmental impact must also factor into materials choices. Join this webinar to explore how to engage architectural students, considering building facades as a case study of where architecture meets engineering.

What you will learn

  • Get ideas to introduce materials to students of architectural design
  • Explore simple exercises that can help students to understand materials and learn a rational approach to materials selection
  • Help students to assess the cost and environmental impact of their material choices

Who should take part?

  • Academics in architecture and architectural engineering

Presenter

Dr. Bridget Ogwezi is part of the team working with universities in the USA, supporting the use of CES EduPack. She holds a B.Eng in Civil Engineering from the University of Surrey. She also holds an Engineering Doctorate from the Technologies for a Sustainable Built Environment Centre at the University of Reading, UK. Her research involved the innovative use of hybrid materials for sustainable design. She has worked with BuroHappold Engineering Facades, assisting in thermal analysis to improve building designs.

About CES EduPack

CES EduPack is the world-leading teaching resource for materials in engineering, science, processing, and design. It provides a comprehensive database of materials and process information and powerful tools to visualise data, select materials, assess environmental impact, and model hybrid materials and the cost of manufacturing. A range of supporting lectures, projects, case studies, and exercises are provided via Granta’s Education Hub.
