Understanding the concepts of design function, constraints and objectives is sometimes difficult for introductory-level students studying materials selection. CES EduPack can help their understanding by showing the logical selection steps that lead to an obvious conclusion – toy cars are not made from the same materials as real cars! Join this webinar for inspiration in how to demonstrate these inherent design challenges to students.

What you will learn

  • See how CES EduPack can be used to help students understand function, objectives and constraints in engineering design
  • Discover simple, engaging exercises that can help students understand complex design and manufacturing decisions
  • Explore a wealth of data on material properties, plus powerful selection tools and science notes for self-learning.

Who should take part?

  • Educators using or interested in using CES EduPack for introductory courses in mechanical engineering, design and manufacture.

Presenter

Dr. Susannah Cooke is a Development Manager and Specialists Leader in the Education team. She supports UK universities and coordinates the Specialist activities within the Account Management team. She has an MEng in Mechanical Engineering and a DPhil (PhD) in which she studied the fluid dynamics around tidal turbine arrays, both of which she completed at the University of Oxford. Between her Master’s degree and her PhD she also worked in the railway industry, in train maintenance engineering and optimization. Since completing her PhD she has worked for the Engineering & Physical Sciences Research Council, managing investments in fundamental Physics and Materials research.

About CES EduPack

CES EduPack is the world-leading teaching resource for materials in engineering, science, processing, and design. It provides a comprehensive database of materials and process information and powerful tools to visualise data, select materials, assess environmental impact, and model hybrid materials and the cost of manufacturing. A range of supporting lectures, projects, case studies, and exercises are provided via Granta’s Education Hub. With specialist editions for specific disciplines, and three levels of the database and software to suit varying needs in all years of undergraduate study and in postgraduate teaching, CES EduPack is a curriculum-wide resource.
